Publisher closes

I've been using Publisher 2000 with Windows XP Home for
almost a year, without any problems. Suddenly, within
the last 2 months, everytime I open Publisher, then close
the wizard without creating a document, I get an error
message that closes the program.

The only way I can create new Publisher documents is by
opening an existing one, and re-saving. I also cannot
start a new document after opening an existing one,
Publisher closes at this point, as well.

I think this has to do with some sort of Windows update
I've received, but I can't figure it out. I've
downloaded every update suggested by the website, I've
uninstalled/reinstalled Publisher, but none of this has
helped.

Does anyone have any ideas?
