Publisher files not showing up in Explorer

Charles

I have been using publisher extensively for the past couple of years and
recently a weird thing started happening. Whenever I look for Publisher files
using Windows Explored the Publisher files don’t show up in the directory
(all other files show up). The only way I can see my Publisher files is to
use the File-Open from within Publisher. This started prior to updating to
Office 2007 and has continued after installing Office 2007. Any ideas why my
Publisher files have been excluded from the Explorer view?
Thanks…

Hope this isn't so simplistic, but here goes: Have you opened one of your
existing Publisher files and tried, Save As, to see where this is being saved
and what file format it is ( .pub). Sometimes the default directory gets
changed and everything gets saved there, instead of in a My Docs directory,
or wherever.

Publisher 2007 does not have a default folder option as did previous versions. A
workaround:
File, save as, browse to the folder you want to save in, right-click the "look
in" Add the folder.

The problem is not that the file is not in the directory that I save it in,
because it is there! But when I browse the directory using Windows Explorer
the file is not visible to Windows Explorer. However if I go to the same
directory using the “File-Open†command in Publisher I can see all my
Publisher files. In other words for some reason Windows Explorer is hiding
all my .pub files.

Your files aren't hidden, it just when you open from Publisher, Publisher only
looks for Publisher files.
Do you have file extensions visible in folder options?

C

Charles

Yes, the file extensions are visible, and all my other files are visible...
just not the Publisher files.

Maybe a detect and repair? Are you seeing this in Word as well? I don't think
this is an Office bug.

C

Charles

Yes I do see my Word documents.

Publisher also does another really weird thing, if I open an existing
Publisher file, make changes to it, save it, then email it using File-Send
Mail, Publisher will send the file as it was prior to making changes. I have
to close Publisher, reopen it, then email the file for the changes to be in
the email version. Just like my other problem, this only occurs when using
Publisher, I was hoping upgrading to 2007 would fix both of my Publisher
problems but both continue.

And in case I didn’t say it earlier, thanks for helping me!!

Are you using a trial version? Can you do a detect and repair?
I have submitted these issues to Microsoft. I can reproduce the second problem,
but it can be resolved the method you use.

I am not using the trial version, I purchased the Office Professional 2007
upgrade.

I have never used the detect and repair, where do I find that command?

It is found under help. Or in the Control Panel in the remove/add programs,
scroll down to Microsoft Office, click change.

I've noticed that, too, that using File > Send, emails the older version of
the document, even though I'd saved my changes. I quit using the File>Send
option and forgot about this until Charles mentioned it.
