Publisher not type, will only allow me to open and print

Hi, l wish to learn how publisher works and so l downloaded the trail version
(try before you buy) well l have activated it but it will not allow me to
type anything open anything not even add a picture so l am at a loss.

Do l just uninstall and leave it at that or buy it???
