In previous versions of Publisher, when I inserted a picture box, I could draw what ever size/shape I wanted. Now when I draw a photo box, it defaults to a square and has to be reshaped to the size I want. Is there a way to change this default?

Firstly what version of Publisher are you using???

Secondly, you more than likely have the option set to Single click object
creation or something like that terminology version dependent.

Assuming you are using Publisher 2002 or newer, the default is to insert the
image at it's proper resolution and proportions, overriding your picture
size.
