Publishing Multiple Sites

J

Jim Johnson

I'm a Frontpage 2000 user who's been using FP to publish my simple website
for the past couple of years. I've now volunteered to publish another
website for a fellow employee (using my copy of FP) and the problem I'm
having is separating the 2 websites when it comes time to upload them. It
appears FP is attempting to upload all the files for both sites onto either
of the sites I try to update. How can I specify which files I want directed
to each specific site?

TIA,
Jim

First thing I would do is in the File menu select new... web... and save it
under a different folder than the first.

Jim,
First, the answer depends upon how you are including your
friend's webpages. If you intend a new and separate
website, you must have 2 separate websites with
individual names. Close out your first one and create a
new website. Design and build your friends website. Note
that to publish it, your friend will have to have his/her
own host with ID and password including a domain. When
you are ready to publish it (or either)do so as you do
with your first one -- file/publish web, etc.

You may wish to simply add pages to your site for your
friend and wish to publish them to your own host. To
publish a single page, do file/publish web/ and when the
files are listed, select the individual page(s) that you
wish to publish, click right button and publish selected
files. You should have options selected to publish only
the changed pages instead of publish all pages. Don't
forget to publish all new items such as images.

An alternate way to publish individual pages is to drag
and drop the individual page. Have your publication set
to show both your pages and those already on the server.

Please be aware that FP and hosting servers may not work
well when you publish pages that have content demanding
that the server extensions be working properly. This may
occur if you are editing and republishing shared borders
and other web content based on FP extensions. The overlay
files for these features must be published new. A way to
ensure that all works well is to do a complete republish
so that the auto generated overlay files are created for
you. Here, you want options checked to overwrite all
published pages.

An alternate way to publish to your host is to publish
your friend's website as a subweb. This is another
subject. Click on your help file to learn how to do this
or ask for help, please.

Hope this is what you were looking for.
