PWA Question

I have now implemented Project Server in my environment. There are three
questions I have.

1. If we have multiple departments that wants to use project server, do i
create a PWA for each department or do I create different sites within one
PWA for each department, or can they all just go to project center within one
PWA and work on their projects?

2. If a person is not assigned any tasks within a proejct, can that person
still see the project?

3. If IT, Finance and Marketing all have one boss, can that boss go into
project and pull up a report to see what tasks his resources are assigned and
what his resources availibility is and progress report?

Interestingly enough, all of your questions have the answer of "it depends."

The general recommendation is that everyone work within one share instance
of PWA, and each department can then look at all projects or their projects
- depending on how you configure the security. If there's a reason why that
would not work, then you would go to different PWA instances.

2. If a person is not assigned any tasks within a proejct, can that
person still see the project?

It depends on what security group they're in, and how the system is configured.
3. If IT, Finance and Marketing all have one boss, can that boss go
into project and pull up a report to see what tasks his resources are
assigned and what his resources availibility is and progress report?

They can access that data if they have the security to open the plan (if
not save it)

That option would be to create non-PWA sites, such as departmental sites,
or any other SharePoint site.

For security recommendations, that's a bit more complex than can be handled
easily in a newsgroup format. You may want to look for local or virtual
training in Project Server and SharePoint. There're a number of options
out there, and they would all be cheaper than having to redo the implementation.
