re-install problem

just had a hard drive crash and now have a new hard
drive. trying to re-install my Office 97, but
installation requires a product key (on back of CD
case). problem: i don't have my original case, therefore
can't proceed. this is a LEGITIMATE use of my product,
but i can't get through to microsoft to ask for help.
what can i do?
