I have re-formatted my hard drive and have re-installed Office XP Pro. I try
re-registering the product but I get a message saying the product is already
registered on another computer - but that computer is the one ive
re-installed it on!!!!!
Please could you guide me on how to solve this problem or contact Microsoft.

I am going to have a similar problem. I have a machine which has Office Pro
2003 activated. I am going to have to completely rebuild the motherboard. I
may or may not be able to use the existing OS afterwards (2000 Pro). My
strategy at this point was to deactivate and uninstall Office 2003 Pro.
After rebuilding the new machine I could then reinstall and reactivate. Is
it possible to uninstall and deactivate Office 2003? If so, how?

No you can't deactivate any of the MS programs. Once you are on a
database, it is very difficult to come out of it. The cost of removing
somebody manually is exorbitant. I am on one spam database and I can't
get out of it. I stopped using an email address for about a year and
still the messages were still coming. the account was also closed for
one complete year but no effect!

What you need to do is to copy two files before formatting the HD. The
two files are:

OPA11.DAT
OPA11.bak

These files are located in (default location unless changed by you):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Data

Also, please note that Office 2003 can be installed on two systems so if
you have used only one so far then it should be easy to install and
activate it on another.

Before copying the two files, please ensure you have renamed the new
files after reformatting to:

OPA11.001
OPA11.002

Please use common-sense when replacing the original files to avoid
headaches.
