Read only front end

I am just needing some ideas and directions. We currently have a db that is
split front end and back end for our users in the office. We are going in a
new direction and I am just wanting to pick the brain of the "guru's". What I
am looking into, is we have 4 inspectors who recently have new laptops to
take in the field. What the request from them is they want to look up
applicants license info and photo when they go to a job to verify the
workers. They are not going to be entering anything into this "front end". It
will be "read only". They just want to view the info about the licenses and
photos attached. They will be coming in every evening and hooking up their
laptops to the network. The direction I am leaning towards is : creating a
shell of a front end with just the form to view the license info. Our other
front ends have a lot more detail that is not going to be needed on the
laptops. My confusion comes in here... Since they are coming in every evening
and connecting to the network, I don't feel that replication is a good option
for us. All we want is for the info to be up to date as of that evening for
the inspectors. I will also need to attach photos to the files in the front
end. Right now they are kept on our servers and connected by that address.
But since the inspectors will not be connected out in the field, I am going
to have to figure a way to modify the address so it will find the photo file
on their laptops and not the server. I also am leaning towards running a Dos
Batch file from Access when they are connected to the network so that the
photo files are also updated. I hope I am somewhat clear on my needs. We use
Access 2003. I am just looking for ideas and direction if anyone has done
something similar. I have been given great ideas and direction here before
and am just looking for some ideas that I haven't thought of or ran into
yet...Thank you for all of your time and ideas ahead of time.
Thanks,
AJ
