recipient box displays first five message of grouped emails

Can anyone help me with my problem. When I receive group emails, my "To:" box only displays the first five recipients of the group. I can not figure out how to change this so that I can get all the recipients to display. I would like to create a my own group within contacts, but without getting all the email addresses, I would have to input all by hand from a written distribution list.
