Recurring task and linking within project

P

pj

I have a recurring task which applies to all resources and it occurs for 10
hrs each week. I allocated it to Friday more for consistency than anything
else.
I have set up the task to recur and they are all at the top of the project
gantt chart. I need to get them sorted by date within the project and link
properly, with the last last task of each week being its predecessor but they
keep being pushed to the end of the project. Is there a different linking
process that needs to be done before sorting the tasks

Thanks

Hi,

I can't really imagine what is happening. Sorting and linking atre two
essentially different things. Sorting does not change any date, and there is
l-no reason linking would pusth tasks further than just afte rthe
predecessor.
You didn't apply the constraint as late as possible did you? That would do
as you describe.

Hi Jan
I checked and the task is set to 'start no earlier than'.
If I cut and paste them instead will that affect anything I should be aware
of?

pj,

I am guessing that they are sorting as a group, based on the first start
date and that moves the entire group up to the top of your sorted schedule.
Try two things, first Project --> Sort --> Sort by and clear the check box
for keep outline structure. then Tools --> Options --> on the view tab clear
the check mark for show summary tasks. This will make all of your recurring
tasks fall into the start to finish date sequence order with the rest of your
schedule, but you loose all of your summary tasks from view. You can leave
the summary tasks visable and they just show twice is the other option. You
could also right click on each bar in the summary row and reformat the bars
to clear to eliminate the duplication.

Your default project calendar should have at least 10 hours of working time
available on Friday to work for this task so there is not 2 hours of work
carrying over to Monday.

Hope this helps.
