Recurring Task Reschedule

R

I am just wondering is there an easy/standard way let the schedule move an
entire recurring task to a different start date. For example, Phase 2 has 1
meeting every week for two months and was originally due to start on 1/4/08.
The start of Phase 2 has a Finish Start dependency with the end of Phase 1.
Phase 1 is delayed by a month and hence the Start of Phase 2 is delayed, but
I don't see any obvious way of getting the recurring task to move out a month.

I can manually change the 'Range of Recurrence' 'Start' date but would like
this to automatically update when a schedule slippage occurs.

The software does not automatically reschedule Recurring Tasks. As you have
surmised, you must manually reschedule them. Hope this helps.

Dear Microsoft Office Project User,

I understand your question as recurring task needs to be rescheduled based
the completion of another task.

As Dale A. Howard expressed, this is not possible in Microsoft Office
Project as all the sub tasks created under the recurring task have a "Start
Not Earlier than" constraint attached.

My suggestion to you set the predecessor of recurring task to the dependent
task. As per your example, "Status meeting" recurring task can have SS
relationship with "Phase 2".

If you require better control, then set the predecessor between the sub
tasks of the recurring task with appropriate lag time.

Tradoffs: More time scheduling tasks and changing the properties of the
recurring task may clear the predecessors set in the sub tasks.

Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks Sai. The easiest way I think is just to include the Predecessor task
at the summary level and manually change the Range of Recurrence date.
Putting in Predecessors on all the subtasks is probably the best way but may
be a bit time consuming.
