Red X in Mac viewing figures from Word for PC

Many of us get a large red "X" showing up in the box where a picture has been
pasted in a Word document on a PC.

Is there a fix to this problem?

I will be grateful if you post an answer. Thanks!

Thanks, but this happens with a copy of MS 2000 Office for Mac that I
purchased in about 2001. So, the patch should have been incorporated in that
release if it was that old.

I'll be grateful if there is a specifc downloadable patch that you can point
me to.
