Reinstall Office 2003

A friend of mine installed Office 2003 on a computer several years ago. The
computer had lots of problems, and she simply threw it away. Now when
trying to reinstall Office on the new computer, it gives a product key
error. Could this be because the program had been installed before? What
should she do?

What do you mean by a product key error? What is the error?

The installation on a new system shouldn't be a problem; it would possibly
give you trouble during activation if the number of licenses is perceived by
the system to be exceeded.

I don't know what the error is yet. I'm going to her house tomorrow. I
thought I'd do some advance prep. I presumed I would need to wait along
time to get a response. Obviously that was not the case. Thanks.

For all I know she mistyped the code. I just wanted to rule this out as a
cause, and learn when any double installation error would present itself, if
it did.

I assume I can activate by phone if the automatic activation doesn't work.

Yes, mistyping is often the case--using 5 for S, and so on.

Yes, you should be able to activate by phone, but you still need the product
ID to install to begin with. Also search the Knowledge Base for product key
articles you can review prior to going over.
