Reinstall Publisher from Office 2000 Upgrade

I had to wipe my laptop hard drive clean (another
problem) and have loaded the new Office 2003 (Teacher
edition) now I want to reinstall from Office 2000
Upgrade - Publisher. It won't let me, something about a
requirement for confirmation of product purchased. I have
the full version of Office 97 but that did not help. Any
ideas on how to get Publisher on the computer without
having to reinstall Office 2000?

When asked to point to the former version, did you try putting the Office 97
disk in and pointing to that? (I am assuming that Office 97 was a qualifying
version for Office 2000 upgrade.)

Yes, that is what is frustrating. I had no problem
before. I get the message "Error 1608. Could not find any
previously installed compliant products on the machine
for installing this product. Installation ended
prematurely because of an error." The Office 2000 was
product that I purchased after Office 97.

That being the case, I'd try installing Office 97.

I just tried that it did not work. Office 97 loaded but
it still would not accept Office 2000.

Okay, failing *that*, Microsoft does offer free installation support. You
have to pay for the phone call itself but chances are it'll be cheaper than
paid support. Please bear in mind that this is ONLY to be used if you
purchased the software separately - not OEM versions.

Monday - Friday5:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. Pacific time
Saturday - Sunday6:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. Pacific time

The following are criteria for Installation Support:
Single desktop installation only. Hardware peripherals must be connected
directly to the computer with a cable. Network installation and network
hardware are excluded.
The product setup program will not run to completion.
Immediately after installation completes, odd behavior or specific errors
are experienced.
