Reloading Word 2000 (and PPT), I lost fonts. How to get them back

Help.... when reloading Office 2000 after a reinstall of Win 2000, I lost all
but the basic four fonts in Word and PowerPoint. Excel recongizes all of the
normal fonts.

Any suggestion would be welcomed.

Since Excel has all of them, they must be there. Have your reinstalled your
printer drivers?

JoAnn..... bingo. I remembered that I created a Print-To-File printer. When I
set the default printer to my normal printer, the fonts were available again.

Nice call. Thanks a million. After 20 years of computing, this one caught
me by surprise. I should have known better.

Thanks for taking your time to reply.

I know that a printer can make the world of difference to Publisher so I
thought maybe............ :)

It's those little things that will do it every time.

As the OP discovered, a text only/generic printer was set as the
default. The reason Word and PPT do not display the full font list is
because they obtain their font information directly from the printer
driver and list only those the printer is capable of printing.

This is a *very* common question in the Word and PPT newsgroups.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
