Remove finish dates from summary tasks.

Hey guys, as the title says, I want to remove the finish dates from summary
tasks. These are fields that I use to make a custom grouping for the
project. I can either get rid of them entirely, or just make it so that they
do not show up in the table view, either one.

JD,
The Start and Finish fields are basic to Project and will always show a
date, whether the line is a performance task or a summary line. You will
not be able to "get rid" of them. You can however hide the Finish field
in the view table but then it will also be hidden for performance tasks.

Why again is it that you want to hide the Finish field? Your comment
about using them for custom grouping doesn't make sense.

Hi JD,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Before grouping, you can hide the summary tasks via Tools/Options.../View
tab - uncheck Show summary tasks.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Basically I want them gone because my boss says so. The project is grouped
using custom text fields, and the dates Project assigns are basically
meaningless. In this case the summary tasks aren't actually tasks, they are
company wide initiatives and focus areas, and don't have start or finish
dates. I only want the finish dates gone so it will look nicer when printed.
I thought of making a new date field, and using a custom formula to only
show the dates of normal tasks, but I can't name the column 'Finish' because
it is already being used. Is there a good solution for this?

Actually I'll just name the custom column 'Finish Date' instead. What's the
code for determining if something is a summary task or not?

I actually just figured it out. Shoulda thought more before posting! Thanks
anyways guys.
