Remove the Office Assistants

I am a technology applications teacher. I HATE THE OFFICE ASSISTANTS!!!! My
students constantly right-click on them and make them animate. I turn off
the office assistants, but the students click in the help menu and select
show assistant and low and behold they come back like a bad habit.

I use several means remove the assistants:

1. I start Office in maintainance mode and delete all the assistants.
2. I go to the registry and delete all the line under the assistants

THEY KEEP COMING BACK!

Anyone know how to get rind of them for good OR can you remove the line Show
the Office Assistant in the help menu. Either would be great.

Have you tried removing them using the Control Panel? Add Remove
Programs and select Office Shared Features, Office Assistant,
Choose Not Available. That way they can not be loaded back in on
First Use. Then, I would further "fix" your students by removing
the Show the Office Assistant in the menu.

Press CTRL+ALT+- (hyphen) and then click on the Show Office
Assistant line in the Help menu. Be careful what you click on
while you have the big fat hyphen associated with your mouse,
because you will remove any menu item that you click on. If you
ever want to reset the menu bar, go into Customize the toolbars,
and select the Menu Bar to re-set it.

Hope that helps.

Where do I use Ctrl Alt - I tried it in the opening Gui to no effect. I
must be doing something wrong.

Open Word. Press CTRL+ALT+-

Take your mouse up to the Help menu. Click on Help, notice that
your mouse pointer is a heavy black hyphen. Click on Show Office
Assistant. The menu item should disappear.

An alternative method would be for you to go into your Customize
dialog box. (View, Toolbars, Customize). Click on the Help menu
to expand it, click and hold down on the Show Office Assistant
menu item and drag it down into your document before releasing
your mouse. That will remove it from your menu. Close the
Customize Dialog box.
