Removing Corrupted program

Tony

I installed publisher 2000 on WinXP and it worked fine. I just tried to run
it and got a message, "Can't run because Win can't find MHPutilU.dll. I
reinstalled and get the same message. I copied the file into the folder I
installed the program. Still no run.

I tried to uninstall using Add/Remove Programs. Can't do that because Win
can't find the Works Services File. I can't install it in another folder
because the registery keeps sending setup to the current folder.

I deleted execute files I could find on the computer and then tried to
delete all the keys and values that were obviously associated with this
program but that changed nothing. I'm sure I didn't get them all.

My problem is compounded by mistakingly installing the program into a folder
without creating a specific folder for Publisher so the files are mixed with
a host of other files.

Pathetic I know, but would appreciate any ideas about how I can remove the
corrupted program (or at least enough of it) so I can reinstall it into the
programs folder.

Since you have been hacking the registry
there may be additional problems but
maybe the following will offer some ideas.

What is the exact name of the program
you are referring to?

Microsoft Publisher 2000? or
Microsoft Home Publishing 2000?
Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2001 or 2002?

If you are running Home Publishing or Picture
It! Publishing...have a look at the following articles:

..DLL File, MHPUTILU.DLL, Was Not Found
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=274461

(271761) Error Message: Setup is Unable

The program is Microsoft Home Publishing Suite 2000. I didn't have a problem
with it installed in Win2000 or XP. After not using it for a while, it
responded as I indicated. I don't have Norton Crashguard or Dr Watson
installed on this computer but I do have Norton Internet Security.

I only deleted registry items after I couldn't remove or install the
program, and only then removed those keys and values obivously associatied
with Home Publishing. The symtoms remained the same. Windows installer only
gives the option of reinstalling to the same directory and even after
reinstalling, the same symptoms remain.

I'll certainly study the knowledge articles to see I can install and run
this program again.

If your program is Home Publishing, you are in the wrong newsgroup. This is
Publisher, a completely different critter.

Appreciate the help.

Since I have previously manually deleted many of the registery and program
files, the windows installer utility doesn't detect the Home Publsher
installation. The other suggested solutions haven't changed my remaining
problem.

When I insert the setup disk, windows installer only gives me the option if
installing the program in the same folder and not a folder of my choice, like
"Programs" the default location, if I remenber correctly. Even if I install
it in the same folder, the program shows the error messages previously
described when run.

Is there a registery key that keeps sending installer to the original folder
and if so, can anyone tell me where in the registry I might find it?
