Rename Project Calendars

T

Thomas

Hi all,

does anyone know how to rename project calendars (in enterprise
global).
We started using calendars for our subsidiaries with a remark "*not
final*" , e.g. "India *not final*" and so on.

Now I would like to change this name to "India"....without copying the
calendar and provide this as a new calendar...because then it could be
that projects as well as tasks are using the old calender....and I
cannot change this automatically....

Any ideas?

Help ;)
Thomas

PS: We're using Project / Server 2003.

Edit the calendar in the normal way, and just change the name. Click okay
and the calendar is renamed.

When I try to rename the calender in enterprise global within
Tools...Organize...Rename... I only get an error message....that this
project (must be the global) contains non enterprise calendars...and
so on.

Where else can I rename the calender? In "Change working hours..." it
does not work

Thanks,
Thomas

Here's how I do it.
Server Settings | Enterprise Data | Enterprise Calendars | Edit Calendar.
Project starts and puts you in the Change Working Time dialogue box. In the
For calendar field, change the name and click OK.

Launch Microsoft Project 2003 and connect to Project Server with
administrator permissions. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open
Enterprise Global. Click Tools - Organizer and then select the Calendars
tab. Select the name of a calendar in the list on the right (in the
Enterprise Global) and click the Rename button. Give it a new name and
click the OK button. Repeat this process for every calendar you wish to
rename. Click the Close button when finished, and then save and close the
Enterprise Global file. Hope this helps.

Dale,

thanks four your response...but when I try to go that way I get the
following error...

~~~~START~~~~
The project contains non-enterprise calendars
Your Project Server does not allow non-enterprise base calendars, but
this project contains non-enterprise calendars including: India *not
final*
First remove all dependencies that the project, tasks, and local
resources have on non-enterprise calendars.
Then delete them from the Calendar tab of the Organizer in the Tools
menu.
~~~~END~~~~

Any ideas?

Thomas

Are you opening the Enterprise Global using Tools - Enterprise Options -
Open Enterprise Global? You MUST do that first. Let us know.

Dale,

yes I do...

Now I found out, that this error message is based on the server
setting "Allow projects to use local base calendars." (PWA-Admin-
Server configuration)
When this feature is turned on, you can rename server calendars.
Afterwards I can switch this setting back to "deactivated".

But is this "recommended"?

Or the best thing is to rename all server calenders (except standard)
to "epm_India" or sth.?

Thomas

The permission that you reference has NOTHING to do with whether the Project
Server administrator can rename enterprise calendars. The permission, when
selected, allows your PM's to create their own personal (local) calendars in
their projects. The Project Server administrator already has permission to
create and edit enterprise calendars. So, let me ask again the question you
won't seem to answer: are you CERTAIN that you are opening the Enterprise
Global (Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global) before you
attempt to edit an enterprise calendar name using Tools - Organizer? Let us
know.

Dale,

for real....I am using administrator account and I am working in the
checked out enterprise global....with tools organizer.
But it won't let me rename the calenders.
De-/Activating the option to allow local calenders has an influence on
this problem...

.....???

Well, then I'm stumped. I have never had this problem, nor have I seen the
problem. When you open the Enterprise Global and click Tools - Organizer,
you can change the names of the calendars on the right side of the dialog,
but not on the left side. The ones on the right are in the Enteprise
Global. You can rename all of the calendars except for the Standard
calendar. So, if you can't do this, I'm stumped. Sorry I can't be more
help.

T

Thomas

ok, thanks.

then I think I will temporarily allow local calenders...rename
enterprise calenders and then deactivate to allow local calenders.
