Resource Allocation doubles duration

I have a project plan which changes as I change my PC! On the work computer,
when I assign two resources 100% of their time to tasks, say of duration of
11 weeks, it doubles the duration of the task to 22 weeks. I have checked the
task information box and its settings are Fixed Unit and Effort Driven.

However, when I e-mail the mpp file to myself and access it on my home
laptop, it ends up working fine i.e. the duration drops to 1/2.

Do I have an issue with the settings on the two versions of MS Project?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Have you checked the calendars?

Have a look in the Task Usage view and see where the work is actually
being distributed. This might give a clue as to when work isn't taking
place and why.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the first direction. I did check the calendars as we are on
standard 8 hour shifts, there are no current allocations since I ran into
this as a first glitch point.

I looked at the task usage and the work is evenly spread out over 11 weeks
over 8 hour days - in effect making my resources work more. I realize this is
a factor of duration and work.

My issue is more of - why does the duration seems to double with two
resources allocated on one PC and on another, it behaves as it should i.e.
the duration drops to 1/2 which is what one would want to see? Someone
suggested reimaging my computer which sounds somewhat harsh for this!

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response! I checked the calendars and they are fine as are
the task usage stats.

The issue more is why am I seeing different reactions from MS Project on the
same project plan on two different PCs? One doubles the duration, the other
reduces it to half when I assign two resources. Someone suggested reimaging
my computer but that sounds too harsh for something like this!

Thanks for advice.

What is your set-up? Are you using a resource pool or Project Server
at work?

Does your resource have any other concurrent tasks?

Do you have automatic levelling turned on at work and not at home?

I don't think you should re-image your computer.

----> I am working off a resource pool and not a Project server.

----> As of now, I have not assigned any resources. I tried to assign
resources and but stopped when I began seeing these problems. This is a small
30 activity project
Do you have automatic levelling turned on at work and not at home?
----> Good suggestion. I will have to check tomorrow as I get to work. I am
hoping this is it.

any other problems.

Thanks. I will check the issue about automatic levelling.

Monica,
If you have not assign any resource to the tasks, the leveling feature is
exonerate from this problem. Nevertheless, never use the Automatic leveling.
