Resource Allocation for Linked Projects

J

John L.

Hello,

I have been on the discussion boards, but can't seem to find the answer to
my issue. I have a master project that consists of multiple projects where I
have linked them. My issue is that I would like to see where my resources
overlap for tasks or subtasks, but the resource names appear to be unique for
each subproject rather than the master project. For example, David who is
assigned tasks in both subproject 1 and 2 appear twice on the resource usage
report and view as well as the 'who does what' reports. Is there a way I can
see/print/export/report 'David' once that lists both tasks/subtasks under his
name?

Thank you

Hi John,

It sounds as though your resource "David" has been defined in each
subproject file and is not part of a resource pool. In order to see the
assignments for a resource across multiple projects, a resource pool file
must be created.

Fellow MVP Mike Glen has an excellent series of articles about MS Project
available at:

http://project.mvps.org/mike's_tutorials.htm

His article 17 does a wonderful job explaining resource pools as well as
giving you step by step instructions on how to convert your mulitple copies
of "David" and other resources into a pool file.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi JulieS

Thank you very much... I tried this step thru the help, but it was much
clearer with Mike's tutorials.

John,

You're most welcome for the link to Mike's tutorials -- I find them
wonderfully clear as well :)
