Resource Allocation

I have created a MS Project plan with Predecessors and strict dates (no
constraints). As soon as I assign resources the dates change. How do I
allocate resources without changing the dates and without creating
constraints on the tasks.

I think I am having a blonde moment but need help desperately

Hi,

When yiou try to assign dates yourself the INLY way is to haev constraints.
After all, you want to constrain Project to not calculate from the links, so
that's a constraint.
So when you say I set strict dates, no constraints, that does not exist.
When you enter a date in a start field, Project generates the con,straint
"Start no Earlier than" so indeed it is not "a strict date" and it may move
depending on links, resources etc.

When you want to fix a task to a date (but you do understand that that is
totally forbidding Project to do its normal work) you have to use a "Must"
constraint (Must Start On, Miust Finish On); if you want to be able to play
around with resources without the duration changing, you have to set the
task type to Fixed Duration, Not Effort Driven.

All of that work to make a software NOT perform its normal calculations..
