Resource and/or assignment hierarchy

I'm new to project and am struggling with how to set things up on a
particular project. I've reviewed Mike Glen's tutorials, which ROCK, and have
helped me combine several into a master. LOVE IT.

OK - Here's the story:
I have three test sites and hundreds of tasks. Certain tasks are already
scheduled for each test site. There are many tasks that don't have a test
site assigned yet. To further complicate things, each test site has
increasing capabilities. For example, tasks that can be done in "C" can also
be done in "A" and "B". Tasks that can be done in "B" can also be done in
"A", but not "C". Tasks for "A" can only be "A".

In the end, I want to have a view with the three test sites and their
scheduled tasks. I'd also like to see the unassigned tasks and their required
test site(s).

Currently, I have three test sites as summaries, with their scheduled tasks
below. Additionally, I have an "unassigned" summary, with tasks. I was trying
to use the "resource" column and not getting anywhere . . . since the
resource is also a heading, I couldn't make it "connect". . . .

Is there a better way to set this project up? Should I be using assignments
and resources and linking them??

Thanks!

The test sites can be viewed as resources.

If you were to set up the project along those lines then the resource
usage view would group each of the test sites and list the tasks
assigned to it. It would also give you an unassigned group (you may
have to adjust the sort order in order to get the view exactly as you
want it so that it isn't cluttered with the work resources you assign).

In order to see the site requirements for each task, I guess you will
have to enter that manually in a custom field.

If you are looking for Project to automatically assign your test sites
to your tasks based on their requirements, then that isn't possible.
