Resource error message

Kevin Bennie

I have 15-20 projects using one resource pool.

While assigning one particular resource, let's call him Bob (I have only
experienced this error while trying to assign Bob) to a task I receive the
following error message:

"The resource is asigned outside the original dates for task 123 ----- in
project 'Bob's project'.
The duration of this fixed-duration task will change to accomodate the
resource assignment."

If I choose to continue to assign Bob and readjust my duration to it's
original amount, Bob has 0 work hours and duration will adjust if I try to
add any work.

If I assign another person along with Bob to a task and again (after
receiving this error) adjust the duration to it's original amount, I can add
work but only the other resource will have hours added.

The tasks attempting to assign Bob to have no % complete (which is a common
issue). Any ideas?

Hello Kevin,

The message you note is caused when you attempt to assign a resource
to a fixed duration task and the resource (Bob) has non-working time
during the tasks start and finish date.

If the resource has no working time in the original task duration,
project will assign zero hours. So, the first place to check is Bob's
calendar and see what working and non-working time is defined.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
