Resource Identification

New user here.

When identifying resources I would like to identify resources within that
group i.e... "Electrical subcontractor" as the resource then identify
individuals from that group such as industrial group, commercial group,
residential group. Can this be done or does each group have to be assigned
seperately?

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the Project newsgroup!

You have a couple of options in creating resources. You can list
resources by name such as "Electrical contractor" and use the Group
field on the Resource Sheet to add additional information such as
"Industrial Group", "Commercial Group", etc. There are also additional
Text fields that you can add to the Resource sheet to allow for further
sorting of the sheet. The Group field on the Resource sheet is one of
the few Resource fields that can show in a Task view. See FAQ # 51
"Data Types: Task, Resource and Assignment" at:

http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

for some additional information

When assigning resources, you cannot assign by the text in the Group
field but if you had several Electrical contractors from the Industrial
Group you could set the Maximum Units field to 200% indicating you had 2
electrical contractors. When assigning resources, you could then assign
100% (for 1 contractor), 200% (for both). For additional information
about Resource Assignments see Mike Glen's excellent series of articles
about MS Project at:
http://project.mvps.org/mike's_tutorials.htm

His article # 10 "Multiple Resource Assignments" addresses this issue
well.
