Resource Pool and Consolidated Project file corruption - how to prevent it?

J

Just Fun

File corruption!
It has happened to me. But why? I don't know what I did wrong.
If everyone knows that it happens, what am I to do to prevent it?
What am I NOT supposed to do?
If all of the causes of file corruption are knowable, then why can't MSP
prevent it?
Are the programers working on fixing this problem?
Is there a FAQ about how to prevent corruption?
Are these fair questions?

Hi Just Fun,

From a post by MVP Rod Gill from awhile ago:
=========================================
DDE is used to connect projects to the pool and DDE is a fragile technology.
Corruptions are typically caused by
renaming a file
moving a file
over-writing a file
Deleting a file

without first disconnecting from the pool. You can get away with it for a
while but it is almost guaranteed that the pool will corrupt sooner rather
than later if any of the above actions is done.
================================================

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

My guess is that God hates you, but I haven't asked directly.

I don't know what I did wrong.
If everyone knows that it happens, what am I to do to prevent it?

See Julie's reply.
What am I NOT supposed to do?

See Julie's reply.
If all of the causes of file corruption are knowable, then why can't MSP
prevent it?

Why would they? They don't use it!
Are the programers working on fixing this problem?

I very much doubt it will ever be fixed. MS would prefer their
customers upgrade to the more expensive version, and this is added
incentive to do so.
Is there a FAQ about how to prevent corruption?

Not that I know of. I tried to get input from others here on this
subject some time ago, but didn't get much.
Are these fair questions?

As I've told my kids since they were little, "Fair is something the
state throws once a year". If you're looking for fairness, better move
to a desert island in the Pacific.
Hope this helps in your world.

Has anyone placed their files onto a USB flash drive without corruption?
Any thoughts?
