Resource pool, not showing personnel drop down in Gantt view

Project 2003

The resource sheet shows all of my people. However when in Gantt view I try
to assign resources, nothing shows up on the drop down list nor in the
"Assign resources" box. How do I correct this?

Hello Karen,

Is the resource pool file open? In order to use a resource pool with
project, the pool file needs to be open read-only at the same time as
the project file.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks for the information. I assume you have shared the resource pool
file with the other project? Are you using Project Server with
resources stored in an enterprise resource pool?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Karen,

I assume by "yes" and "yes" that you are using Project Server with an
enterprise resource pool? I am not a server expert, but I believe when
using Project server there is *not* a separate resource pool project
(mpp) file like there is when using a project resource pool file without
server. I believe once the Enterprise Resource pool has been created on
the Project server, the project manager, when connected to Project
Server needs to choose the command Tools > Build Team from Enteprise and
Add resources to the project. Then those resource may be assigned to
tasks.

If you are using Project Server, please post your questions to the
Project Server newsgroup. I believe they will be better able to answer
your questions relating to Project Server and enterprise resources.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I have it both ways with and without server. This one was not with using the
enterprise resource pool.

Karen,

From the sharer file, when you choose Tools > Resource Sharing > Share
resources, what appears in the dialog box?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

It shows "use resources" selected for EDI R&D v4.mpp with "sharer takes
precedence".

Hi Karen,

Sorry for the delay. Is the "EDI R&D v4.mpp" the pool file or the
sharer file? I assume the "EDI R&D v4.mpp" file has resources? If it is
the pool file, have you tried disconnecting the file (use own resources)
from the pool and then reconnecting?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

I don't know the difference between a pool file or sharer file. And yes I
have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but no changes.

Hello Karen,

The pool file is the file containing only the resource information:
name, standard rate, group etc.
What is the name of your resource pool file?

The sharer file is the file containing task information: task name,
duration, start, etc. The sharer file is connected to the resource pool
file through Tools > Resource Sharing > Share resources and you select
the option Use resources from: and select the resource pool file name
from the drop-down list.
What is the name of the sharer file?

Is it possible for you to email me the pool file and the sharer file?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
