Resource Pool

I have created a resource pool for each department in my
organization. I have also created a master resource pool
which contains inserted projects for each department. I
want to be able to report on all resources across the
organization to exec mgmt. When I try to export time
scaled data to excel, I get an error msg that
states "There are no resources in the current project. Try
again after the project has one or more resources." What
have I missed? I don't want to combine all the resouces
into one huge resource pool, because this will cause
confusion at the department level. All suggestions,
comments welcome. BTW, I am using Proj Std 2002.
Thanks in Advance,
Cheryl

Cheryl,
It is not clear from you post exactly how your files are structured. I
tried several different scenarios using a single pool file only, a
master file (no tasks) with the inserted pool, and a Project file that
uses a separate resource pool file. At no time did I get the message you
describe. Several of the exports resulted in "0" or blank data simply
because there were no tasks with assigned resources. It did not matter
if I answered "yes" or "no" to the pop up window asking if I wanted to
open the resource pool.

Why do you feel one combined resource pool will casue confusion? There
are several ways to separate each department's resources, including
grouping and filters.

Cheryl,
I don't see anything obvious in your file structure that is
significantly different from the scenarios I tried. However, which
version of Project are you using? It occurred to me that the timescale
export feature may operate a little differently in later Project
versions. I did my test with the add-in in Project 2000. As I noted, I
did NOT get the message you describe even though an export of the pool
file by itself will give "0" data in Excel. Perhaps the timescale export
feature in Project 2002 or 2003 recognizes that a "0" data export is
meaningless and therefore pops up an error message.

Also, are you trying to export data directly from one of the resource
pool files or from a file that has task assignments?

John,
I am using 2002. I am trying to export the data from a
resource pool. I think the prob is what you speculated
below. For some reason on the export, the data is not
pulled from the sub projects.

Cheryl,
Wait a minute, if you are trying to get timescaled data from a resource
pool file that has no task assignments, the exproted data will be "0".
Exactly what data are you trying to export?
