Resource Unit Import

B

Bill

Hi All,

Can the resource "Units" be included in an export from an Access database
into Project?

Or is there another way??

I have an Access database with a single lead officer against each project
and with a percentage allocation of that resource. i.e. 50% for half time
spent on the work etc. It really would help if I could automate getting that
into project!!

Regards.
Bill

When you setup your import map, when the wizard asks you what kind of
data you wish to import, ensure to check "assignment". It will then
subsequently ask you to setup the mapping of assignment data, one field
of which is "units".

Rob,

There is a 'Resource Names' field available in Task Data and 'Max Units"
(not units!) field available in "Resource Data". You advise how these are
related please?

Hi Bill,

Max Units are the maximum that Project works to when deliberating on
overallocation. If you have 10 Carpenters at your disposal, then Max Units
are 10 or 1000%. The other field is the Assignment Units field, which is
where you tell Project how many, out of the Max Units, you want to assign to
that particular task eg, 3 or 300%, or half a carpenter's full day (normally
8 hours) of 4 hours or 0.5 or 50%.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Glen,

I'm getting, many thanks for the input. I realise I was looking in the wrong
place as well and have found 'units' now. Is there a schema(??) available
for the Project table structure anywhere?

What a statement!!!!

Sorry - meant to say "I'm getting there, many ....."

Appols for any egotistical bias!

There is a document installed on your pc (installed with Project
installed), called "projdb.htm". Search for the file. Take a look
there. Probably tells you more than you want to know, but a) good
reference, and b) good bedtime reading.

Bill,

Depending upon the version of Project you are using the file may be:

Projdb.htm - Project 2002
Pjdb.htm - Project 2003

Usually it is stored in the 1033 folder (assuming US install). As far
as I know, I think it is part of a standard install for Project.

You may also find the following Download center page helpful. It is the
download for the Project 2003 Database Schema:

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
