restoring accounts

In an attempt to clear up one problem I deleted an
account then readded it. I had been told this wouldn't
effect the items in my inbox, but as it turns out they
seem to have been deleted. I'm trying to see if there is
any way to recover those emails.

What kind of account was it? POP? IMAP? What version of Outlook?
