Retrieving contacts

I'm operating XP professional and Outlook 2003. There was a program on my
system that I downloaded to test. When I attempted to uninstall it, it took
with it all the shortcuts on the desktop, all my personal folders under
documents and settings, and most importantly all my e-mails and contacts. I
downloaded Active File Recovery and was able to retrieve the personal folders
but everything associated with Outlook can't be found. I see a .pst file but
it is dated as being created the day my system was damaged. How can I
retrieve my contact list and possibly my old e-mails?

What program was that so that more of us can avoid it?

If removing that program actually deleted the files under Documents and
Settings and if they could not be recovered by an undelete tool, you're
screwed. Enable showing hidden files and folders and make sure your files
are really gone. See this for the location and purpose of most Outlook
files: http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm
