This happened to me as well. Here's a solution:
1. Go to openoffice.org
2. Click "I want to Download OpenOffice.org"
3. Click Download Now.
4. Run the installer.
5. Return Microsoft Office and ask for a refund.
Now your files will actually open, you are more productive, and you saved $200+.
