Saving e-mails and addresses to an external drive

I need to switch my internal hard drive. How do I save e-mails and my address
book to an external hard drive before I switch out my internal drive? I have
Windows XP. Therefore, I assume that I have Outlook 2002.

After the new internal hard drive is installed, I would like to transport my
saved e-mails and my address book back to the new hard drive.

Can a novice accomplish this?

All data is contained in the *.pst files
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm

Usually your new hd manufacturer has a tool on available on their site for
cloning to a new hd - *read* the instructions.
Or you can use Acronis
All data should be backed up, prior to using any such tool
