Saving / enabling a preview in a Word Document

Graham Tupper

We have produced a series of Templates in Word 2000 and
cannot get the preview to show, How do we enable or save a
preview of the template.
I cannot find any reference in Help or elseware.

Thank you

The option is found on the Summary tab of the
File>Properties dialog box.

As Stephan says, you can get a preview by checking the "Save preview
picture" box on the Summary tab of File | Properties. But be aware that this
will add greatly to the file size. In addition, every document you create
based on the template will by default have a preview picture. This means
that, if you have, "Prompt for document properties" enabled (Save tab of
Tools | Options), users will need to remember to clear this check box when
prompted for document properties. If you don't have the prompt enabled,
they'll have to remember to do it of their own accord. If they don't, every
file will be unnecessarily large.

This is a large price to pay for a template preview that is probably not
necessary if the template is given a sufficiently descriptive name. As for
document previews, if you select the Preview view in File Open, you'll find
that documents without a preview picture provide a more usable preview than
those with (try it, and you'll see what I mean).
