Saving label templates

A

Aunt Bea

I am using Word 2003. I would like to download a new Avery label template,
and would like it to appear with the other label formats within Word. Where
would I store the template so it appears with the other Avery templates?

When you do a File - Save As and select template .dot, it should default to
the correct location.

Thank you for your speedy response.

I tried this and it didn't work. Maybe I did it incorrectly. I downloaded
the template, but it wouldn't let me select template .dot, so I saved it
somewhere else, then I did a Save As like you indicated. It defaulted to a
Template folder, but when I went to Tools>Letters & Mailings>Envelopes &
Labels>Label Options, the label I saved did not appear. Maybe I wasn't clear

Oh - it won't appear in there. That's hard-coded in and you can't add to it.

Thanks for the information. I'm disappointed that the label area can't be
updated to include new label formats, but at least I know what to do.

Well, I thought I knew what I was doing. I have the template saved, but I'm
trying to do a mail merge with the new label template I have saved and I
can't get it to work. Any suggestions?

Not off the top of my head. Try posting your question over in a Word
newsgroup.

What you need to do is create a new document based on your template. Then
when you select Labels for your main document click Cancel when you are
presented with the Labels dialog box and Word will use your document instead
of creating a new one for your mail merge.
