Scheduling a class

I've two classes to schedule for a group of people. I must have lost my
undertstanding of fixed duration, effort driven, etc. I set the first class
to must start on the class start date and fixed duration to the 1 day for the
class. Then I add the resources who will be out 8h per day for it. When I add
the 2nd and 3rd attendee it changes my duration to 2 days. If I change the
duration back to 1 day it removes the 8 hours from the first two resources.
How do I schedule classes like this?

Hi,

One of the attendees you assign is on holiday the day of the course
And with the cast iron logic of Project he/she will do his/her part of the
work the next day
Task Usage will show you who is supposed to came back the next day; remove
that resource.
