Screen jumps in Publisher

When I click anywhere in a Publisher 2000 document, my
screen jumps, causing 2 or 3 lines to be highlighted. It
takes repeated tries to place the cursor where I want it
without text being selected. This only happens in
Publisher, not other MS programs on my work computer. Our
support people have not been able to figure this out. I'm
on my third mouse to see if it is a mouse problem--doesn't
seem to be. Does anyone recognize this problem? Thanks.
