Season Constraints

Hello,

I am in the process of planning a multi-year project with 300+ tasks. Some
tasks cannot be done in the winter months because of the nature of the work.
Is there some way to set up some tasks to "skip" over the winter months of
the year when calculating start dates based on dependencies? Any ideas would
be appreciated.

Hi "tmcfarla,"

One fairly simple way to deal with this situation is to create a calendar
that has the "winter" months blocked by setting the entire range of days that
you consider to be in "winter" to non-working days. Then, you can assossiate
the tasks that you want to adhere to the non-winter days to this calendar by
selecting this calendar on the task's Task Information|Advanced tab
"Calendar" (drop-down) field.

Note that this solution is only practical when there are not too many
exception calendars in play. You can add the Calendar field to the view that
you use, and can copy|paste to make the use of this field easier, if there
are a lot of tasks that need to be assossiated with it.

Hope this helps!

Hi tmcfarla,

You could create an additional calendar (Tools > Change Working time)
that has the winter months set as non-working time. Then you can assign
that calendar as a task calendar (Double click on the task and go to the
Advanced tab of the Task Information dialog box).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie
