I'm also searching for password protection software.
Considering Page Protection Pro. What's the problem you're
having getting it to work?

this subject, but do I need to do all of these?
logon.asp
logonvalidation.asp
passprotect.inc
protected.asp
register.asp
registerentry.asp

In other words, are these a series of steps necessary to
provide adequate password protection. (These are the
links provided on the site you recommended?)
