I have a steadily progressing problem with Outlook 2002. Initially I would send a new message and get an "Unable to connect to server..." message even though I was online (DSL) and working properly. I would close Outlook, get the "Detected a problem..." window, would send MS the error message and then reopen Outlook. All would work properly for hours or days until the problem reoccured but the frequency steadily increased. The problem would also occur when I would notice I had not received an email for some time (I get some regular news updates so it is easy to notice this). I would close Outlook, get the "Detected an error..." message and go through the routine again.
Now, the problem is worse and more frequent, happening several times a day. I am also at times finding that I send a message and Outlook will go into "Not Responding" mode. I have to go to the Task Manager and force it to close but sometimes that will not really close the program and I have to go End Process to get it to fully close. I have repaired Outlook, uninstalled and reinstalled, both with no resolution
I have Windows XP and go through a server running Server 2000. I am the only one on our network with the problem.
