Set Publisher to a booklet

I am changing a letter sized pub (2007) of 10 pages from a 8 1/2 X 11 letter
sized to a booklet 11 x 17. I did what is explained at this link:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HP102116721033.aspx?pid=CH100487781033,
including setting the margins to match the original pub. However when
complete the process changes the master pages. The original masters are a
single A and a single B page. The new master turns the A page into a double
page. Additionally the footers on both masters are moved above the lower
margin and reduced in length. I need to perform this procedure monthly and
it is a pain to have to reformat the master pages each time. Any suggestions?

First of all, this is in the URL you posted.
*Your booklet will print correctly only when the total number of pages is a
multiple of four, but you don't have to place content on all four of the
inserted pages. You can leave some of them blank.*

You can clear the *Use the same master page for both facing pages*. In the
master page view only one master page can be enabled. If you add your page
numbers after the conversion they are positioned correctly.

Why are you not creating your publication as a booklet to start with?

Thanks. My hard copy print person asks for the pub in booklet format (pdf);
however I send pages 5 & 6 separately printed from the normal 8 1/2 X 11
format. Additionally I "print" the file as a non booklet pdf for our digital
subscribers. Thus the non-booklet format to begin with. My booklet prints
fine with 10 pages using PDF Creator from my printer drop down list. My hard
copy printer just ignores the center pages (5 & 6) and uses the separate
pages as an insert.

How do I "*Use the same master page for both facing pages*" do this? Also
will doing this prevent the master page disruptions I described in my
original posting? The doubling of page A and the misalignment/size reduction
of the footer?

Thanks for the quick replies. The url I posted was found in search as a way
to change an existing pub into a booklet. I essentially follow those
instructions when I encounter the master page problems.

Perhaps the solution is to work with the pub in booklet format and see if I
can print this format as a non-booklet when I open print?

Replying to my own post: thanks for making me think about the problem Mary.
The solution does indeed appear to be to just work with the pub in booklet
format all the time. It appears that I can print the pages singly from this
format easily as I want to do some of the time. I just select "one page per
sheet/letter/portrait" and can print as a normal pub. Selecting
"booklet,side-fold/tabloid/landscape" allows me to print the booklet without
having to convert.

Thanks again,

Tom

Tom, Thanks for your post, I appreciate reading successes. I'm glad you worked
it out to your satisfaction. I have a hard time explaining ways and means
clearly.
