Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup
Firstly, you don't! You should not be entering dates. Enter Tasks,
Durations and precedence links and let Project do what it was designed for -
to calculate the schedule based on your inputted data. You're also confusing
Duration of 30 days (the working time span between start and finish) with
Work 5*8 hours per day= 40 hours ( the number of man-hours required).
However, having entered a task for 30 days Duration, go to Window/Split.
Make sure your task is selected in the top pane. Now you want the Duration
to remain at 30 days, so change the Task Type to Fixed Duration and click
the OK button to set that mode. Click on Resource Name in the bottom pane,
and enter its name. Change the 240 hours in the Work column by typing 40
and OK. The Units will change to 17%, ie the resource will be required to
work 17% of his 8 hour day on this task.
