set up

I just completed set up and no icons, nothing in programs..... my product key
was accepted, I asked for 'typical' set up, and then when I said to check
upgrades, it took me to the microsoft website. I upgraded and then it kept me
at the website. I closed it, and..... no icons. HELP

Yes, nothing. I figured out how to reinstall from the cd by clicking every
file on the cd..... one worked and now it appeared in the start menu so I'm
set. thanks....
