Setup error (after using HP system recovery)

I had Office 2003 Student and Teacher's Edition Installed in my computer
before I had to use system recovery (as the HP staff recommended me to do so)
due to some persistent computer glitch. My computer uses XP SP2.

However, after system recovery, the office 2003 files are still in the
computer, but I can't access it as the computer says the programs are "not
installed". When I inserted the installation CD, it came out an error message:

Error 2755: An internal error had occurred. (1601 C:\MSOCache\All
Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\PRO11N.MSI) Contact Mircosoft
Product Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to comtact
PSS, see E:\Files\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1033\PSS10R.CHM

What is the cause of the error? Is it that the registry has no data on
Microsoft Office but the files are still there due to the system recovery?
Should I delete all the old files in C://Program Files/Microsoft Office
before I attempt to reinstall?

The other programs inside my computer also had messages saying that they are
not installed.

Please help me, I urgently need to use Office for my school project.
