I have a shared resource pool file and several projects tied to it. I add
resources from our Active Directory using the New Resource From drop down in
Project. I have the resource pool file open r/w when I do this. I can add
one resource and save the file and then when I add the second resource and
try to save the file I get the following in a msg box. My second resource
will not be saved in the file. If I don't save after the first resource,
I'll get this error after I add more than one resource and try to save. I'm
tired of the add-save-close-open-add-save-close-open-add-save-close-open
dance. Anyone have any ideas?
Sometimes this same error occurs when updating a project file's tasks when
Project tries to update the Resource Pool but I can't find a pattern to that
occurence.
Here's the message:
The file cannot be opened.
. Check that the file name and path are correct.
. Check that the file format is recognized by Project.
Project files saved in a version earlier than Microsoft Project 98 can't
be opened.
If your file is from an earlier version, open it in that version, click
Save as (File menu), and save in MPX format. Open the MPX file in the
current version of Project. When you use this method,
project data is imported, but formatting is lost.
