Sharing resource pool

R

Robert

I have found that having one resource pool for several
teams is dangerous when leveling (team members get mixed
up and the like). I have therefore set up under a Master
sharer file several projects which are team named with all
thier projects linked within. These team projects act also
as a resource pool, and having the Master file open, one
can see all resources allocated over all teams.

Problem now arises when Team 1 wants to "borrow" Joe Blogs
from Team 2 for the day. How can I share resources between
resource pools???

Am I going about this the wrong way??? If so, how can I
insure that MS Project calculates with team specifics, and
not resource wide!!! Am I making any sence here???

Regards
Robert

Hello Jan-de,

We used to run one resource pool, with all teams in. So
when MS Project leveled overalloctations, it would use ALL
the resources in the pool. Thats to say that all of a
sudden members from team 10 would be allocated on teams
4,5, and 6. Likewise with other recources!!! (that was a
happy day for me, I can tell you :)

I finally came up with the idea to split the one resource
pool into several pools so this kind of mixup would not
happen, only to find our that sharing recources between
pools is not an option....

Microsoft, if you read this, this is an option we would
like intergrated!!!!

The only other option that I have come up with is
assigning F. Blogs to both teams and when assiged to one
team (on a daily basis, cant be bothered with that 2 hrs &
24 minute crap :)I would then mark that day as non working
for the other team. This unfortunatly doesnt solve the
duplicate name in the one consolidating view :( So Im
afraid you are correct... it is an either/or situation,
but just annoying!!!

Isnt there a suggestion hotline to MS???

Hello Robert,

I really do not know what you have been doing.
Leveling does not change any assignment, it ONLY DELAYS what is necessary to
resolve overallocations.
Are we talking MS project here?
MS project's leveling DOES NOT reallocate. NOT.

Your days solution is very, very elegant!
