Hi,

what's the Excel for PC alternative to edit a cell? When pressing the cursor is on a certain cell, and you press F2 on PC, go switch to "edit in cell" modus. What's it on Mac?

Same question for creating "multi text lines" in cels. On PC this is Alt+Enter. What's the alternative for Mac?

And finally, what's the key combination to go to the beginning of a sheet from anywhere? Again, on PC this is Ctrl+Home. As I do not have a Home button on my laptop or wireless keyboard, I'm a bit lost here (same question for Word by the way...).

Can anybody help me getting more speedier in using these tools :).

Cheers,
Roger

You really ought to try Excel help. (Search for shortcut keys). These, and
probably your next questions, are answered there.

Thanks Bob! Very clarifying.

I tried the help before and did not find these, but I think he improved during later updates...

Can you explain the following: go home on...

Excel = FN+Control+Left Arrow
Word = FN+Alt+Left Arrow

Why the incompatibility?

Feature request: please introduce the "past and match style" general OSX shortcut being "Shift+Alt+CMD+V.
ALL Mac apps use these, except Office...

It is so annoying and time consuming to wade through the menu's and select 'as plain text'.

Thanks in advance,
Roger

No, I can not explain the inconsistencies. I am just a user like you are. If
you wish to express your desires to Microsoft, use the send feedback option
in the help menu of each Office application.

It's not really the inconsistency it appears to be :) The confusion comes
from the source of those keystrokes (no offense, Bob ;-))

The standard keystroke on the Mac in both Word & Excel for returning to the
start of the document [or active sheet in Excel] is Command+Home... On a
laptop you have to include the fn key as a modifier because Home is an
alternate operation of the Left Arrow key.

Even though the Mac has a Control key, the equivalent to the PC's Control
key is actually [in most cases] the Command key. The other keystrokes are
alternatives which you may/not want to use. I tend to think Bob threw that
one to you because he works heavily on PCs as well as Macs & that's what
he's adopted to facilitate moving cross-platform.

As to the keystroke request, it won't do any good here :) Nobody has
anything to do with the design of the software. As Bob said, we're users
just like everyone else. If you have *anything* to communicate to MS use
Help> Send Feedback from the appropriate program or go through the Contact
Us links on Mactopia or Microsoft.com - launching ICBMs here will miss your
target by at least one continent.
