Showing a task as 100% complete without spending all budget hours.

I have a task that I was able to complete in less hours than budgeted. How do
I reflect the task as 100% complete and yet have the actual hours show less
than the budgeted?

Hello Landersman,

When you say "less hours than budgeted" do you mean it took fewer work
(effort) hours or a shorter time (less duration)?

First, I'd suggest showing the Tracking table applied to the task
sheet. If the task was completed in less duration, change the actual
duration to the lower number after marking the task 100% complete.
(If the remaining duration goes above zero, simply zero it out.

If the task took less effort, the tracking table does show actual
work. You could add the remaining work field for ease of use. After
setting the percent complete to 100%, adjust the actual and remaining
work as needed.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie,
What happened is I had a task that was scheduled to happen over a 20 day
period and ultimately take an effort of 16 hours (person would work on it a
few hours a week). Task was completed in a shorter time frame AND less hours
than estimated. When I try to shorten the time frame (update the actual
finish date to be the current date) and fill in the actual work to reflect
the actual work, it changes the percent complete to be less than 100%. Any
other ideas?
