size of "open" dialog box

When I click on the "open" folder on the menu bar, a full screen explore
screen opens instead of the small window that use to open. I figure that
with all of the updates ( ver 2002 sp3) that I have changed some setting but
I do not know how to get the small window back

Double -click on the titlebar of that explore screen.
